Argentium Silver Wire Fusing with Charlotte Caughman

Saturday, March 20th, 10am-5pm

Tryon Arts and Crafts will host a Saturday workshop with instructor Charlotte Caughman on the art of Argentium Silver Wire Fusing.  The one-day workshop will be held on Saturday, March 20th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the craft school located on Harmon Field Road.  Students will learn about the exciting properties of this unique metal as they fabricate a necklace or bracelet.

Made with a touch of germanium that severely inhibits tarnish, Argentium silver wire will fuse wonderfully, eliminating the need for solder. This silver is a step above sterling in quality and price and due to the unique properties of the metal, it rarely needs polishing.  Students will learn more about the properties of Argentium silver and the technique of fusing Argentium jump rings to create a beautiful necklace chain or bracelet. Students will also incorporate several design possibilities with texture and hammer.   The workshop is open to students will all levels of jewelry experience and will be a great addition to their metalworking skills!

The instructor, Charlotte Caughman, is a native of Brevard, NC who now resides in Inman, SC.  She has been actively involved in the arts for most of her life.  From managing an art supply store to teaching 7th graders and from photography to soapstone carving, her interests and activities are many and varied.  She received her degree from UNC - Asheville and spent the last 12 years plus involved in jewelry making and silversmithing.  Her jewelry may be viewed in the gift shop at Tryon Arts & Crafts, the Mineral Museum in Hendersonville, as well as other sites in WNC and in Southern Florida.
